Artist reception and wine tasting at the Good Tern Natural Foods Co-op

ROCKLAND — The Good Tern Gallery, at 750 Main Street in Rockland, will show the paintings of Lizzie Lombardo from September 6 to October 31. There will be a wine tasting and meet-the-artist reception on Friday, September 30, from 4-6 p.m. Gallery curator Lois Anne is teaming up with Good Tern Co-op wine and beer buyer Deminique Cole for the September 30 artist reception.

Artist Lizzie Lombardo was born in Thomaston and studied sculpture at the Pratt Institute in New York before returning to Midcoast Maine. Her work combines an interest in historical icons and events in popular culture and social issues, as well as her own experiences and those of people she knows. Among other things, she is interested in creating installations as ‘environments’ of her own fantasy and guiding viewers in experiencing and interacting with art.

“My work is a conglomeration of imagery inspired by the rural and coastal landscape of Maine, internet culture, retro sci-fi and horror films and strange found objects,” she said in a Co-op press release. “Through my practice, I find humor in feelings and in my relationship with my environment.”

Cole chose four wines from store shelves, which she says are perfect for the fall season; three are new to the Good Tern store.

“All four would make great additions to a fall party or alongside a Thanksgiving feast,” Cole said. “Contact! by Jean Aubron, produced in France’s Loire Valley, features the Melon Blanc grape and has an unusual orange coloring; 27 Spumante Rosé Brut, from producer Vitivinicola Rota, is a Lambrusco Rosato from Emilia-Romagna, in Italy; Lilith by Poggio Anima is a Primitivo from Salento, Italy; and Chinon Cabernet Franc, by Paul Buisse, also from the Loire Valley, is medium-bodied and pairs well with grilled meats and soft cheeses. , especially goat cheese.

The art exhibit takes place in both the Good Tern store and the Hole in the Wall bagel store. The wine tasting will take place at the Café of the Bonne Sterne store. A small selection of cheeses and crackers will be served.

The event is free and open to all; wine is restricted to those 21 and older.
