Banbury area nursing home residents invited to wine tasting
Staff and residents of the Chacombe Park Care Home in Barchester in Chacombe were treated to a master class on wine tasting hosted by Nick Parker and Lee Isaacs of Unity Wines.
Nick and Lee took the residents of Barchester on a wine world tour starting with a light and fresh Italian dry white wine, Asti Secco. With lemon, pear, apple and white peach, this is a great alternative to Prosecco. Then there was a South African white, the Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc – such a versatile wine, this example had green and red apples, peach fruit and a hint of something slightly tropical with a wonderful touch of apricots. , walnuts and melon.
Then the residents left for France to try La Vielle Ferme Rosé, a light rosé with hints of white flowers, strawberries and cranberries. Finally, it was Spain’s turn where residents sampled Ramon Bilbao Rioja with its ripe and vibrant blackberries and plums, and filled with flavors of brambles, cinnamon and nutmeg and a lingering toast.
Nick said: âIt was a privilege and a pleasure to share some of our most beloved wines with the residents of Barchester, it was a whirlwind tour, but I hope we gave everyone a good idea of ââsome of the different styles offered by a beautiful dry Asti to the fruity Rioja.
Lucy Tomlinson, Resident Experience Manager at Barchester Healthcare, said: âWe love working with our wonderful partners like Unity Wines to bring a wide range of fantastic experiences into our homes for everyone to enjoy. This tasting was really interesting (not to say delicious!) As it featured so many different styles of wine from countries around the world.
âOur varied life enrichment program keeps residents active and socially connected, providing a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities. ”
General Manager Jude Shibu said, âOur residents love a glass of wine with their lunch or dinner and they love to try new styles. The tasting was therefore an absolute treat. It was very interesting to learn which wines go well with different foods, our residents can’t wait to try Nick and Lee’s recommendations.
