Kosher Food and Wine Tasting Extravaganza Coming November 2

A first-ever kosher food and wine tasting extravaganza, sponsored by the Houston Kashruth Association, will take place on Wednesday, November 2 at 7 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Event Center. The center is located at 2401 W. Bellfort St. near NRG Park.

During the event, guests will have the opportunity to sip, taste and savor over 70 kosher wines from around the world while enjoying an assortment of kosher appetizers. All food will be under the supervision of HKA.

“We are thrilled to launch the first-ever kosher food and wine tasting event in Houston,” said HKA General Manager Tzivia Weiss.

“As events like this happen regularly in major cities across the country, like New York, Los Angeles and Miami, it will be something completely new and different that Houston hasn’t had the opportunity to experience before. “, said Weiss.

The Extravaganza will be a social outing, with no program or formal solicitation. Thus, the whole community will be warmly welcomed, including those who do not respect kosher.

“The purpose of the Kosher Food and Wine Tasting Extravaganza is not to ensure that everyone who leaves the event becomes a practicing Kosher Jew,” Weiss said.

“Rather, what we hope to achieve is an appreciation for the tireless work that HKA undertakes and an understanding that kosher wines and foods are not limited to the old orange and green boxes that many use to see lining the pantry. eat from their Bubbies.”

Houston’s Orthodox community has experienced explosive growth over the past five to ten years. Observant Jewish families continue to arrive in droves from cities such as Lakewood and Flatbush, NJ, to Los Angeles, Toronto, Baltimore, St. Louis, all five New York cities (and more). Individuals and families are thrilled to settle in the Lone Star State.

With Houston having achieved the status of one of the fastest growing Orthodox communities in the country, more kosher restaurants, markets and items at local establishments are opening and becoming available due to increased demand. All of this growth requires additional monitoring and certification by HKA and its limited, but committed and hardworking staff.

Many special guests will travel to Houston for this event. Among them are Jay Buchsbaum, Vice President of Marketing and Director of Consumer Education for Kedem and Royal Wine Corp; and Amichai Lourie, owner of Shiloh Winery in Israel, who will introduce his company’s brands and talk about new label launches in the near future.

“I’m excited to come to Houston to be part of HKA’s first kosher food and wine tasting,” Lourie said. “Shiloh Winery takes great pleasure in introducing its high-quality wines, which are grown right next to ancient Shiloh, to Jewish families and communities around the world. I look forward to being part of this event and meeting members of the local community.

Event sponsorships are available and include a VIP reception in the Scottish Rite Suite overlooking downtown Houston, with the opportunity to personally visit international winery owners, as well as other dignitaries in attendance. Some of the rarest and most exotic labels will also be available for tasting at the VIP reception.

Free parking will be available; attire is dressy casual. For more information and to register for the event, go to or contact Weiss, [email protected] or 513-652-0444.
