The Oxford Wine Company (OWC) has launched a wine tourism platform aimed at making wineries “accessible to all”.

Launched last month, the Vind platform currently comprises 917 wineries around the world, each with control of their own page, where news from the wineries can be found alongside the stories behind the producers.

In addition, the platform offers educational articles and wine tourism advice written by guest writers.

It is free for wineries to join the platform, which was founded by William Sandbach – director of OWC and son of founder Ted Sandbach – and has been running for 18 months.

With more and more wineries joining each day, Sandbach said the company hopes to have between 2,000 and 3,000 registered by the end of the year.

The aim of the initiative was to create a platform that “would help people find wineries, all over the world, whether you are at home or abroad,” he said.

“Vind was created to make vineyards accessible to everyone. Few people want to spend thousands of dollars on a wine package vacation. However, there are many people who are interested in wine and would like to have a wine experience, whether it be it’s a tasting, a visit, a lunch or more, ”he said.

With people currently unable to travel, this year it was about expanding the platform by increasing both the number of wineries on board and active users, added Sandbach, who came up with the idea to visit some vineyards during a vacation in France.

“After spending a morning researching online, I found myself frustrated with the difficulty of determining which wineries were nearby, which were accepting visitors, hosting tours, or hosting tastings. So when I got home I started working on Vind, ”he said.

“Vind makes it easy to find and experience the best wineries in the world.”

Last September, OWC was ranked number three in Harpers Wine & Spirit’s 50 Best Indies 2020. Number one went, for the second year in a row, to Bin Two and number two to Luvians Bottle Shop.
