From haunted history to murder mystery, many Halloween events take place in the Cayuga County area in October:

🎃 Pumpkin Painting Contest

WHAT: Pumpkins decorated by children 13 and under collected to decorate Falcon Park for Home Run Halloween on Saturday, October 22. Include the child’s name and phone number with the pumpkin. Abner and Casey will select their favorite pumpkin to display at the front door, and the winner will receive a prize from the Auburn Doubledays

WHEN: Pumpkin drop-off from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 19 and 20.

🎃 Halloween Witch Hunt

WHAT: Go in search of 50 witch hats hidden throughout the museum. All children who record their discoveries on the museum form can hand it in for a prize. Children 12 and under will receive a goody bag, and children over 12 can spin the museum’s magic wheel to determine their prize.

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday through October 31

🎃 Haunted Ghost Story Tours

WHAT: Members of the community share stories about those who lived in the mansion where the Seneca Falls Historical Society is now located, and who may still be there.

WHEN: 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18 and 25

🎃 Witch Tea

WHAT: A screening of the film “Hocus Pocus”, a popcorn buffet, palm and tarot readings by Lady Fenris, tea leaf readings and spell bags by Miss Kat of Everything Greener, crafts do-it-yourself items, including witch fascinators and witch paper dolls, and themed music, food and drink, such as the dark magic witch brew. Costumes encouraged.

🎃 Haunted Hayrides

WHAT: Wagon rides through the haunted forest adjacent to the vineyard.

🎃 Auburn Haunted Historic Tours

WHAT: Costumed guides lead guests through the gardens and streets of Auburn with tales of Victorian burial practices, spectral encounters from the Seward family lore, true crime stories and more.

🎃 Old school Halloween

WHAT: Family Halloween with trick-or-treating from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., costume parades with prizes at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., pumpkin carving from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Model T and tractor-drawn wagon, refreshments, music, museum visits and more.

🎃 Witchy Women of the Finger Lakes Show

WHAT: Guests are invited to wear costumes and parade to the church for performances, a food truck, vendors, crafts, face painting and more. Organized by the United Ministry of Aurora and the Aurora Free Library.

🎃 Halloween Home Run

WHAT: Family Halloween with cider and donuts, candy on the grounds with free bags (5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for ages 8 and under, 6:30 to 7 p.m. for ages 9 to 12), a children’s zone with Jeff the Magic Man, face painting, bouncy house, balloon art, Halloween guests, fireworks, concessions, pumpkin coloring contest and more. 🎃 Trunk or treat

WHAT: Family Halloween event hosted by Summit Pediatrics with vehicles (from East Hill Medical Center teams and sponsoring organizations) decorated with spooky and fun holiday themes, and candy given out. Also safety tips and items provided by Auburn Police and Fire, toothbrushes from East Hill and hot chocolate and donuts from Leo’s Donut Factory. Donations are accepted at the East Hill office at Metcalf Plaza in Auburn.

🎃 ‘Exhibit A: A grisly murder mystery at the museum’

WHAT: A mystery set in 1922 at the home of eccentric inventor Edward Box, where attendees have been invited to a party where he will unveil his latest invention. When he is found dead, participants must solve his murder by following clues and finding clues in the house. Participants portray a cast of characters loosely based on local historical figures, and one of them will be the Inventor’s Murderer. Includes appetizers and two complimentary drinks. Coming in disguise encouraged.
