You’re IT The Fine Wine Company of Westport!

Three questions for Cory D’Addario, owner of The Fine Wine Company of Westport.

Why did you start your business?

I worked in the food and wine industry for many years before purchasing the store. After working with a distributor, supplier, broker, and then finally as a wine side retailer, I have found being a retailer to be the most rewarding for customer relationships. There was a clear need for clean wines – which were grown honestly and without the use of herbicides, pesticides and synthetics.

Wines faithful to their region, carefully selected and above all delicious.

What is your best-selling product / service?

Although we sell craft beers and craft spirits, our goal is to be a good wine store. Our best-selling wines are from Italy and France. In retail, everything we do is about service, knowing our customers by name, knowing their likes and dislikes, anticipating needs, researching products just for them and sharing true food knowledge. and wine.

We put a tremendous amount of energy into making sure the wines our customers bring home will be wonderful with their dinner, I want my customers to be superstars at their own tables and at their receptions.

Have you “reimagined” your small business?

Thanks to Covid, like many retailers, we have adopted the new standards of doing business. Fewer people were entering the store and wanted to drive for curb pickup or delivery. For me, that meant spending a lot more time on the phone with customers to make sure they were receiving the most personalized service in choosing their wines.

Nothing stagnates in the wine business if you are indeed a good retailer. Understanding floods, wildfires, frosts and droughts all greatly influence where we next look for good wine.
