The Horse and Hound Festival brings the wagging and wine tasting back to Bedford Co.
BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Are you ready for some fun in the sun this weekend, with wagging tails and wine?
The 17th Annual Horse and Hound Wine Festival returns to Peaks of Otter Winery in Bedford from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 9.
Since WFXR News is one of the event’s sponsors, WFXR’s Hazelmarie Anderson took a trip to Bedford to soak up the great outdoors; learn about the history of the festival; and sample some of the treats that will be available on Saturday with Peaks of Otter Winery owner Danny Johnson.
According to the winery’s website, there will be muskrat races; various pet contests, including the “Sharp Dressed Animal Contest”; entertaining and educational horse lessons; pony rides and carriage rides with the Kazim Klown; and live music from Sam Austin and Silverline.
Organizers tell WFXR News that general admission is $15 and tasting tickets are $20. However, dogs and children under 12 will enter the festival free of charge.
The winery says a portion of proceeds from the Horse and Hound Wine Festival will go to nonprofit dog and horse organizations, such as Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter, Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue, Inc. and Commonwealth Search and Rescue.
No outside food, drink or cooler is allowed at the festival, organizers say.
You can visit the Peaks of Otter Winery website to purchase tickets for Saturday’s festival, view the calendar of events, and find a list of the various vendors and wineries that will be attending.
