Wine tours and sightseeing activities offer a taste of the region
Amanda Hamilton has fallen in love with Niagara and she wants to show off the best of the region.
His passion for the region and love for wine was reason enough to say goodbye to his office job in administration and start his own sightseeing and wine tour business at the end of August.
The name of the Hamilton business came easily to him: Glass O’Wine Tours.
“When you ask people if they want a glass of wine, they leave out the ‘f’. They say, ‘Would you like a glass of wine?’ ”
When people think of Niagara, Hamilton said the region is known for its wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the sights and attractions of Niagara Falls, but there is so much more to explore in the Niagara Peninsula and across the Niagara Escarpment, including wineries and breweries in St. Catharines, Vineland, Jordan Valley and Grimsby.
“We live in a wonderful area… There’s so much here in the Niagara Escarpment and people don’t realize it,” Hamilton said.
The Crystal Beach resident said her love of Canada began when she came to Canada in 1982 when she emigrated from England.
“I worked as a nanny in Calgary. I had a travel bug and worked for a wonderful family. They allowed me to discover Canada and realize how great it is.
Hamilton’s business has been in the works for three years and bought its tour bus in 2020 just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
With COVID-19 restrictions easing a bit, Hamilton felt the time was right to launch his business.
“I already have reservations and did a few test drives (to practice) for friends,” she said.
Its goal is to provide travelers and locals with an affordable and personalized wine or brewery tour experience and its first step is to chat with customers before planning a trip.
“I want to do something different from other wine tourism companies. When you go on a wine tour with friends, I want to know what you’ve seen and what you like to see so I can customize an itinerary,” she said.
Hamilton also plans to offer picnics and winery and brewery tours while celebrating special events like bachelorette parties and birthdays. This means personalized banners, balloons and other small items to mark a special occasion.
“I want to offer a personalized touch to customers. I want to zoom in on those special calendar dates, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries,” she said.
