Your 4th of July Party Planner – The Bloom

As I’ve said many times in the past, I have a used “Acme Clone-a-Matic” for sale, and it might come in handy this 4th of July weekend in case you’re having trouble decide where to go for live music. By reading the program, you will understand why you might need it. And I really have to sell it! So, like I said, there are going to be a ton of live music events this week! (If you wait until Saturday to decide on the ACM, the price goes up…). Here’s the live music guide for Lake County for the week of 6/30-7/6…

The Farmer’s Finest Farmers Market held at the Library Park Gazebo in Lakeport will feature music by Dennis Purcell on Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Then on Saturday, the market moves to the Shannon Ridge Mercantile in Finley, also from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., where music will be delivered by Laisne Hamilton. At both locations, stock up on locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, an assortment of artisan items, honey, jams, extracts, balsamic vinegars, starter plants, and even hummus. Let either of these events be your one stop bop and shop destination. Thank you for supporting our local farmers, artisans and food preparers.

Running Creek Casino at Upper Lake will be a laughing stock on Comedy Night when Ellis Rodriguez, winner of the San Francisco International Comedy Competition, takes the stage at 8:00 a.m. The cost is $20 – which isn’t a lot of money for yucks, just to say… On Sunday night, fresh from their Lakeport tour, Beatz Werkin’ will be tearing it up from 5-9pm. The RCC offers a great menu and full bar at their music and comedy events.

On Wednesday at the Hopland Tap, the Invitational Blues Jam continues, featuring house band Wendy DeWitt, Kirk Harwood, Pierre Archain and Skip Engle. With just this band alone, it’s already an over-the-top event, but it usually includes a Bay Area brand blues musician to round out the show – and oh what a show it is! The music is 7 to 10, with a small cover.

The Kelseyville Side Street Market on downtown 2nd Street on Thursdays from 6-9 a.m. will showcase the works and wares of our local artisans, perfume artisans, master vinegar makers, honey bottlers, and more. – just about anything you can’t live without can be found down a side street. Sorry, no music this week, but come by anyway…

On Thursday at the Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville, you’ll want to dance to the R&B, Blues, Soul and Funk music of my band, Dr Groove, from 6-9pm. Get a preview of what to expect for Saturday’s K’ville Street Dance. Great food, a full bar, and happy feet—reservations recommended… On Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., pianist, singer, and storyteller Andy Rossoff will delight brunchers with many favorites from New Orleans and beyond…

Lakeport’s Main Street Gallery will present its 1st Friday Fling featuring wonderful local art along with music by Andy Rossoff. Come for the great music, come for the art, come for the atmosphere – but come on Fridays between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. Snacks and local wines will be available.

Get ready to RAWK when the Lakeport Summer Concert Series at Lakeport’s Library Park features Beatz Werkin’ mastery of classic rock on Fridays from 6-8:30 p.m. It’s pretty much everyone’s favorite Friday destination – and for good reason. Be sure to bring a picnic, chair or blanket, drinks to this family event.

The Happy Garden restaurant in Clearlake Oaks offers some of the best Asian food you’ll find at LC, plus a full bar – and Fridays from 6-9 am, music by Randy Hood. This guy is so much fun to watch, with so many great songs you love, you just have to come and check him out.

Robinson Rancheria in Nice will host the music of Tin Dears on Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Then on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the River City Outlaws will steal the stage with great Outlaw Music. Probably a good night to pull a few handles, you know what I mean, Pard?…

Richmond Park on the Bay Riviera has plenty of events this 4th of July weekend, starting with Howard Dockens on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Then on Saturday from noon to 4:00 p.m., Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the talented Tommy Rox will perform his musical magic. And when T-Rox rocks the joint, the joint rocks back!

Just in case you want something different, Cache Creek Casino, (not to be confused with The Winery) will feature country music sensation Clint Black on Friday nights starting at 9:00am. Might be a bit of a drive, but you’ll only see taillights the whole way there and back, which should improve the ride.

As you wind through to Saturday morning, why not stop by Redbud Park in Clearlake where the 64th Annual Redbud Parade and International Worm Races take place from 11am-9am (are they ridden by tiny little jockeys? ). There will be live music, but I’m still waiting for a response from the coordinator.

Shannon Ridge Winery at the Mercantile in Finley will be celebrating the 4th of July weekend on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with wine tastings and other events, and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. you’ll be in for a bang because SRW is happy to help present the good rock music of The Funky Dozen. Great wine, great food and great music – that should set off some fireworks!

In Austin Park, (across from Clearlake City Hall), the Clearlake Summer Concert Series will feature “THE VOICE” winner Danielle Bradbery beginning at 5:00 p.m. The show will be opened by local favourites, The Time Travellers. They will make this new scene vibrate on Saturday!

The Kelseyville Business Association will present a 4th of July special “Kickin’ in the Country Street Dance” on Saturday from 6 to 10:00 a.m. This weekly summer event has been one of Lake County’s funniest concerts for several years now. This night brings one of Lake County’s favorite bands, The Fargo Bros, who sure know how to rock the crowd. And opening the event will be Dr Groove, with their mix of R&B, Blues, Soul and Funk music. Can you say “WOWZA”?!?…

Saturday at the Riviera Hills Lounge at the Riviera, the Mark Weston Band will have them dancing from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., outdoors on the terrace. Take in glorious sunsets, enjoy food and drinks from a full bar, then get ready to dance. Then on Sunday, get ready for some of the best music from musicians in the entire Bay Area when the 1st Sunday Open Jam begins to rock the big lake outside on the patio from 5-9am. This once-a-month BIG JAM has been a big draw and even more crowd pleaser for most of the past six years.

The O’Meara Bros Brewing in Lakeport on Saturdays always gives you the best for the first gig of the month when Austin and Owens bring their acoustic mastery to the stage from 6-9am. Great food, great music and the special O’Bros beers and craft beers, this might just be the place for a date…

The Ely Stage Stop on Soda Bay Rd in Upper Riviarea will host its 1st Sunday Fiddlers Jam from 12-2pm. It’s probably the best Bluegrass music you’ll hear in Northern California. Some of the best pickers for miles around are participating. You can’t sit still…

Drinx Bar and Grill in Lakeport on Sunday afternoon will host an open jam session with house band Margo and Friends from 2-5 p.m. Musicians looking for a jam, stardom might be at hand…

On Sunday at the Boathouse in this pretty little town of Nice, the music will be provided by Howard Dockens from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The perfect place to end the weekend.

The Blue Wing Saloon at Upper Lake always has a full schedule of live music on the weekends, and this week is no different. On Thursday, there’s a special event featuring Blues and R&B guitar virtuoso Takezo Takada, with a little help from the Queen, Wendy DeWitt and Kirk Harwood from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. On Friday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Majide Trio tithe an offering of Torch Ballads, Blues Standards and Classics from a bygone era. You will be delighted… Eric Reinhart will provide musical entertainment for your culinary pleasures on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Their Sunday brunch will feature none other than the Jazz Dudes from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday Supper Service will feature the music of Wolf Tree from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For Monday Blues, stock up on 1, 4, 5 when Stevie and the Shufflenuts take the stage from 6-8. As an official member of the Shufflenuts, I highly recommend them to everyone… It’s always a good idea to make reservations for all of these events…

NEXT Wednesday, 7/6, the Smiling Dogs Ranch will present for their Humpday Howler, the phenomenal Jazz quintet, Cross Currents from 5:30 to 8:30. With an all-star backing band, trumpeter Carlos brings a whole new dimension to our local jazz scene.

Mendocino County

Ukiah Brewing will present the send-off concert to Europe with HellaMendocino on Thursday. This event is ahead of HellaMendocino’s 2022 European Tour. Catch ’em before they’re gone. On Saturday come hear the music of Wolf Tree from 6.30am. Then, on Sunday at noon, you’ll get a whiff of Boogie Woogie as Wendy DeWitt and Kirk Harwood rock the joint. How funny…

Rivino Winery in Ukiah will feature music from the Adam Manus Band on Friday beginning at 4:00 a.m. On Saturday come and discover Paula Samonte with Will Siegel and David Scollin from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Monday, the Eclectic Coyotes play from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Open mics, jams and karaoke

There is karaoke at Twin Pine Casino on Thursdays from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

There is karaoke on Sundays at the Riviera Hills Lounge from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.

There is an Open Jam in Drinx from 2-5 p.m.

So, as you can see, there’s going to be a lot of music this week. But it’s also the 4th of July weekend! I couldn’t find a list of all the official (legal) fireworks throughout the county, but I can tell you there are plenty. So for the sake of the rest of us, please go to those fireworks rather than burn down the neighborhood with your own display. And if and when you go out this week to enjoy all the live music provided, have fun – but be careful…

Mike Garniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for over 40 years. He paid his dues into a strong Sonoma County music scene in the 80s and 90s, then DJed for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his 26-year job , because he recognized a growing local music. stage, he decided to dedicate his time to performing live music again. He never looked back. With his regular band, Dr. Groove, he played lead guitar for local bands (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, CAM Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travellers). He has played acoustic guitar at some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers markets and art galleries. He is also a semi-regular supporting various local open mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has also recorded original demos for other performers. For the past three years, he has posted a local music guide on Facebook called Lake County Music Guide.
