Your weekend guide to Milwaukee | Milwaukee Magazine

1. German party

ALL WEEKEND | HENRY MAIER FESTIVAL PARK

This Milwaukee favorite is making a comeback, complete with polka music. Listen to German Fest’s star band, Schürzenjäger, a platinum-winning band from Austria, or sample Haribo gummies alongside the company’s mascot bear. Between the traditional food and drink and the Dachshund Derby, you’ll find a way to celebrate German culture to the fullest.

2. Hora de cuentos (Story time in Spanish)

3. Ceramic tile workshop

FRIDAY 1-4 PM | CHARLES MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS IN WUSTUM

If you’ve hit a creative rut at this point in the summer, find a new outlet here – with a little help from hexagonal ceramic tiles and paint, of course. Take the time to shape a clay tile and then decorate it to your liking. Teens 14 and older can attend all adult classes. Admission is $30 for Racine Art Museum members and $36 for non-members.

4. Social Dancing Series: Bachata

FRIDAY 6:15-7:45 p.m. | MILWAUKEE RIVERWALK

Want to expand your dance repertoire? Turn the Riverwalk into a dance floor during this traditional Dominican dance class taught by Jacqui Lefebvre of Danceworks. The class is $35 per couple. Participants must be at least 21 years old, as the price of admission covers the price of one beer, wine or soft drink per dancer.

5. Lakeside at MAM

SATURDAY 11AM-4PM | MILWAUKEE MUSEUM OF ART

Stop by the Milwaukee Art Museum to enjoy great weather, yoga, hands-on art projects and music this Saturday at this free event. At 11 a.m., take part in a one-hour yoga class or check out folk-jazz duo Sara and Kenny at 1 p.m. Stop by – lake views and artistic fun await!

6. Brady Street Festival

SATURDAY 11AM-MIDNIGHT | BRADY STREET

Brady Street pulls out all the stops for this one-day festival, where you can see a drag show, go rock climbing, listen to local musicians and more. Grab some friends and explore all the food vendors and maybe even catch the Casablanca belly dancer show.

The fun is gearing up at Milwaukee Brewfest this weekend. At a beer lover’s dream, sample craft beers, ciders, wines and meads. Food and water will also be available. Doors open at 3 p.m. and be sure to leave your kids and pets at home for this one. General admission tickets are $65 if purchased in advance and $75 if purchased on the day of the event (while supplies last).

8. Stand Up Comedy at Anodyne Cafe

SATURDAY 8-11 PM | WALKER’S POINT ANODYNE COFFEE

It’s probably not a well-kept secret (or a secret at all) but we’re going to tell it anyway: comedians Alex Dragicevich, Eric Smith, Jamie Shriner and Judd Reminger are taking over Anodyne Coffee this weekend. Tickets are $10 if purchased in advance and $15 if purchased at the door.

9. Re-Wear It Community Clothing Swap

SUNDAY 11AM-4PM | THE GLASS PANTRY

If you’re looking to clear out your closet or find a new centerpiece, stop by this pop-up community event. Bring your gently used clothes and a keen sense of fashion to this clothing swap dedicated to creating more sustainable fashion habits.

10. Reading and Potluck: Poetics of the Kitchen Counter

SUNDAY AT 2 PM | LYNDEN SCULPTURE PARK

Participants in Kitchen Counter Poetics, a workshop led by local poet Chuck Stebelton, will read their new work and celebrate the end of the course with a potluck. This free event is open to all poetry lovers.
